What are Interdental brushes
What are interdental brushes, what are they used for?
There are certain places in the mouth where tooth brush bristles have limited access. The spaces in between the teeth are the toughest to clean as they are constricted areas and are prone for plaque accumulation and food lodgement. With advancing age, proximal wearing of teeth and creation of interdental spaces are inevitable. Cleaning these spaces are of paramount importance and interdental brushes come very handy in this situation.
Interdental brushes are small headed brushes that are usually tapered or conical headed and are used in back and forth motion. The right size of the brush is to be chosen to maximize the cleaning efficiency and also prevent any soft tissue injury. A brush head that snugly fits into the interdental area is the right one.
With increased awareness amongst patients regarding the relationship between dental plaque and systemic conditions, interdental brushes are fast becoming a regular part of oral care.
